My time as the Director of Technology at Keller Williams Realty Elite has been the culmination of my technology experience. I am fully in charge of managing the technology resources and technology training of an office of over 200 real estate agents (and growing) and 11 staff members across 3 business locations. I am also responsible for providing personal, one-on-one, technology support to these 200+ real estate agents.
Being a real estate office, the office is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) environment. This has been both a great challenge and excellent learning experience as it requires the ability to quickly solve problems for a wide range of personal technology devices—from Macs and Windows PCs, Android and iOS mobile devices, to various brands of consumer and small business printers. I have benefited my office in the following areas… TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION Train real estate agents in a wide range of technologies including Market Leader's eEdge real estate CRM, website, marketing campaigns and materials system; DotLoop digital signing & paperless document system; team collaboration with Dropbox, Google Drive, and Google Apps for Business; Microsoft Office; and password security. I made my live trainings available via TeamViewer webinars. TECHNOLOGY COST SAVINGS My knowledge of computer hardware allowed me to re-use old, unused computers stored in the office with low-cost hardware upgrades rather than purchasing new hardware. I reviewed contracts that were in place before I assumed my position. I found lower-cost and/or free alternatives to the services. I discovered a $580/month charge that the office had unknowingly been paying for over two years for a non-existent office location. I worked with my staff to re-coup $18,000 in lost funds. NEW-HIRE ONBOARDING PROCESSES The office’s primary goal is to recruit as many real estate agents as possible, with a long-term goal to reach 500 agents. I developed a system for onboarding new agents, and introducing them to the technology that Keller Williams Realty International provides to them. I was asked to share my system at a Keller Williams national conference for other technology staff (see below). DESIGNED WEB-BASED OFFICE SYSTEMS I designed & maintained a website for office-use for training, new-hire onboarding, creating appointments with staff, office resource reservations, event & training registration & tracking, and more. I was asked to demonstrate my website on a Keller Williams national webinar for other technology staff (see below). I receive many phone calls and emails asking about my website from other Keller Williams technology staff from around the U.S. REMOTE SUPPORT I provide remote computer support to each of our 200+ agents via LogMeIn and TeamViewer. Our agents see this as a major benefit as many of them live long distances from the office, so travel to the office can be prohibitive. My providing of remote support to them has been a major factor in retaining agents. I also use remote support to manage office computers from home and across business locations. TECHNOLOGY PROJECT MANAGEMENT I have managed large technology projects including the purchase and upgrade of our training room projection system from a small, 80-inch, XGA projector to a 120-inch, 1080p DLP laser projector. I managed the technology portion of two office openings in one year—our Yukon office and commercial/luxury office. I was also responsible for choosing and updating office printers, implementing print auditing software, and the installation of these printers for 200+ agents. MULTI-LOCATION NETWORK ADMINISTRATION Maintained a small-business network across multiple business locations linked via VPN. Created shared file access across locations for staff members to collaborate on shared files. Utilized professionally-managed server hosting services to host and run staff software remotely for reliable, remote usage across business locations. NETWORK SECURITY Implemented and trained agents and staff on security policies that kept the office safe from malware (including disastrous malware outbreaks such as CryptoLocker). SELF-EMPLOYED SERVICES PROVIDER Performed outside technical support for agents and staff members at discounted rates compared to retail services. Services included computer hardware & software repair, graphic design, web design, etc. RECOGNITION In October 2014, was asked to appear on a Keller Williams Realty International technology webinar to share my web-based solutions with my peers across the U.S. In February 2015, was asked to speak before my peers at Keller Williams Family Reunion, a national conference for KW agents & staff from across the world. I spoke about my new-hire onboarding process that relies on a variety of web-based technologies to work together as a smooth, reliable, repeatable system. |
